bs.as.stncl is a stencil art collective that was formed in 2002. It was one of the first groups to begin painting in the streets following the Argentine economic crash.
bs.as.stncl was motivated by the potential for expression and communication through urban interventions. Their early work had strong political undertones, created to communicate clear messages to its urban audience. Over time their pieces became less overtly political, and more subversive of popular icons and cultural figures.
The group played an important role in the street art scene that blossomed in 2001, demonstrating the power that urban walls hold as a channel for expression. Their art in turn encouraged others to communicate themselves in a similar way and to reclaim public spaces.
bs.as.stncl is one of the many stencil collectives to emphasize the importance of collaboration, insisting that this is what gives street art its incredible power and impact.
